結果ーResults (武田双雲)

野尻湖畔 Lake Nojiri Lakeside
(九月七日2010年)

結果にばかり目がいくと、

結果的に結果が出ない。

この「結果」と言う言葉が三回あるのに英語では二回しか出てこない。繰り返しの効果が薄く感じるのが残念。意味の重点は逸れるかもしれないが、マイケル・カードと言う作曲家/歌手の言葉を借りて英語で要約すれば次の通りになる:「旅には喜びがある。」終着点より途中の道のりの方が楽しい且つ充実感にあふれる。

(9/7/10)
If you constantly focus on results

In the end, you will get no positive results

The repetition present in the Japanese is lessened when translated. The word for "result" is used three time. Literally, the Japanese reads "When your eyes go only to the result, resultitatively, you get no results." (Resultitatively = the characteristic of a result; a word I forcefully created).
My translation, although the focus of the intended meaning would be slightly altered, would be summed up in the words of Michael Card: "There is a joy in the journey." Rather than the destination, the path along the way is much more fun and fulfilling.
